Integrating FriendFeed into Twhirl I'll keep this post short and sweet. With the proliferation social tools (there seems to be a dozen new ones every day), it's harder and harder to keep up with all the activity taking place in each one. Social media site/tool aggregator, FriendFeed, has helped alleviate some of this problem by allowing us to aggregate many of the most popular tools (Flickr, Twitter, Blogger, digg, StumbleUpon and others) into one stream. Even better, FriendFeed allows you to comment inline on the site and/or push that comment back into the native social site in the case of sites like Twitter.
Here's the rub. It's hard to remember to go over to FriendFeed on a regular basis. It's one of the reasons that I got so excited when I found out that you could pull your FriendFeed activity into your Twhirl account. It's unfortunately not quite as easy as you would think so I'm going to take the great advice that I got from my friend (and new Tech Support guy) Chris Brogan and add a few additional steps:
- If you don't have Twhirl already, you need to start by downloading Adobe Air.
- Once you download air and install it, download the beta version of Twhirl from Leo Laporte's site (don't go to Twhirl's site, the latest version they have is only .0.8.4)
- Before you install Twhirl, make sure you have your current version of Twhirl closed if you currently use it
- This is the slightly tricky part - open up the new version of Twhirl and click on the logo in the top right-hand corner of the application (it looks like a mini green and white hurricane)
- See screenshot below - the key is to select "FriendFeed" as an application option in the bottom left-hand corner:
a) once you do this, enter your account info in the box just to the right and click the plus sign b) now select your Friendfeed account from the list above c) click "Connect" and this should prompt you for your "remote key" - click on the link below the box if you don't have one and it will pop up a FriendFeed browser window w/ your key d) copy, cut and paste the key into your Twhirl dialogue box and hit enter.

Thanks again to my man, Chris Brogan, for showing me the way! BTW, I did an Utterz on this topic on Saturday. Listen here if you'd like.
