I just wrapped up a great podcast with Liz Strauss (yes, that Liz Strauss) and she had some great insights on what you can do to make your blog more successful. Unfortunately, you'll have to give us a day or so to get the podcast up... it'll be worth the wait!

In the meantime, I want to explore the subject of comments ... read more

Drinking from a Fire Hose
With all the information sources available today it's easy to get overwhelmed by the sheer volume of it all. Whether it's blogs you follow, your Netvibes or iGoogle page or the stream in Twitter or Friendfeed, everyone seems to have a < ... read more

Power Community by Creating Collisions
I'm fresh off two days in the Mile High city where I attended Defrag 08. The goal of the conference was to get participants thinking about ideas and opportunities from different angles to spur new insights. Well, mission accomplished! I'm not sure if it's the red-eye I flew in ... read more

Conversations w/ Mzinga at OCS08
The 2008 Online Community Summit in Sonoma, CA wrapped up with a wine tasting on the front lawn of the Ramekins Sonoma Valley School (how fitting given the locale). It was bittersweet goodbye since it was such a great learning and networking experience. The sess ... read more

Taking a Quick Look at Oracle Mix
I'm always excited to hear of big companies jumping into social media (even if they're not a Mzinga client). When I noticed Jeremiah Owyang mention this morning on Twitter that Oracle had launched an "ideas" site, I just had to take a look. It's great they'r ... read more

Mzinga BBQ - Picnic Table Podcast
We do our best to have a good time here at Mzinga and this summer we've been hosting BBQ's almost every Thursday out back in the parking lot. Typically, we have 3-5 of our friends from social media (in addition to the 100+ Mzingers) stop by for a burger or hot dog and some great conversation. Well, today we had quite a crew swing by so I grabbed my Zoom H2 to record the conversation and share it w ... read more

Fostering Member Engagement
"How do I keep my members interested, active and engaged?"

I hear this question all the time... whether it's an existing client or someone thinking about getting started with community and/or social media. And with most questions like this, there are a lot of answers, but there's one overriding truth.

Make sure you're clear about what's in it for them. This gets back ... read more

Monitor Your Brand/Products on Twitter
I just got off the phone with one of our clients... she had some "Twitter questions." Specifically, she was wondering about why people "retweet" what other people have already said. We talked a little about the network effect, how each person on Twitter has their "own" network and the ease of sharing what someone else has already written while giving them credit.

20 Tips for Your Community Newsletter
Communicating with your community members can take many forms... a welcome interview, webinar roundtable, alerts and newsletters (just to name a few). I'm going to take this post to dig deep into that last one... the newsletter. It's easy to pattern it after a familiar email blast template, but you're missing out on some key components. The suggestions that follow are based on both tried/true tech ... read more
